Hello from AuthorPods’ Vermont headquarters, where summer is well on its way out, and the trees are showing off their annual explosion of color. As the air cools, our wood stove stands at the ready; cozy winter nights of reading by the fire are just around the corner. For now, though, we’re soaking up the all-too-brief glory that is autumn in Vermont for as long as we can. Soon enough, those trees will be bare of their brilliant leaves, and the snow will fall.
What We’re Reading
At AuthorPods, we’re always seeking out intriguing reads around particular themes or passions. Recently, we’ve been delving into books with ties to Vermont. Here’s just a few we’ve enjoyed:
ELIZABETH: “I’ve been interested in 19th century Vermont. Seven Years of Grace: The Inspired Mission of Achsa W. Sprague by Sara Rath, and Frontier Feminist: Clarina Howard Nichols and The Politics of Motherhood by Marilyn S. Blackwell and Kristen T. Oertel. Fascinating!”
LUCIAN: “I am passionate about fly fishing and am intrigued by A Field Guide to Murder and Fly Fishing by Tim Weed. It’s a short story collection that’s fast-paced with lots of adventure and fly-fishing. A great read.”
SARAH: “I’m reading The Shame by Makenna Goodman. It’s about a wife and mother living a seemingly idyllic life on a farm, but the reality is it’s driving her mad. Lots of food for thought.”
CHARLOTTE: “I’m doing some research into books about the supernatural and mysterious in Vermont. A couple of books that are on my radar right now are The Black Witch by Laurie Forest, and Joseph A. Citro’s Vermont-based ghost stories, especially Green Mountain Ghosts, Ghouls, and Unsolved Mysteries. Both great picks to get in the Halloween spirit with October right around the corner.”
